Advantages and Disadvantages to Boxed Wine

by Greg Hansward

Wine is a popular alcoholic beverage traditionally made from fermenting grapes, with choices generally divided into either a white wine or a red wine. Wine is stored in either a bottle or a box. Box wine is a bag of wine typically made of aluminum but protected by a box, usually a standard cardboard box.

There are several benefits to box wine, particularly that the packaging method is superior to others. It is also easy and far safer to carry around. Box wine also helps preserve the wine allowing it to better age to perfection with no additional oxygen seeping in and tampering with the flavor. Another advantage is that the box wine is not subject to spoilage or cork taint even after the wine is opened. There is greater storage efficiency since the risk of breakage is eliminated as compared to bottles of wine.

However, there are also disadvantages to box wine mostly that the bag is not hermetically sealed which means the unopened shelf life is shorter than other wines. Also, connoisseurs categorize box wines as “cheap” wines claiming that the wine does not have the authentic aged taste as other wines.

Box wines can generally be found at any liquor or wine store. Otherwise, a local specialty wine shop should certainly carry box wine. You can also order box wine online. With the ease in transporting box wine, there are many different companies selling box wine on the internet allowing you to order from anywhere in the world.

It is best to have a combination of both bottle wine and box wine so you have a nice variety but keep in mind that box wines have a shorter opened life span so you will need to drink them before others. But, you will be fine as long as you drink the wines before the expiration date.

Also, keep in mind that boxed wines come with fewer options since they are fermented and not stored the same as bottled wines. Another advantage to bottled wines is that they offer a greater variety from which to choose. Again, whether or not to choose bottled wines over boxed wine is really a matter of individual preference and varies from person to person.

Just as many have a preference for either white wine or red wine, or even certain types of such wine choices, many have a preference for either bottled wine or box wine. As you see, there are several advantages and disadvantages to boxed wine which need to be considered before purchasing. Regardless of the storage method, though, wine has been enjoyed throughout history and continues to remain a popular social beverage from dinners to parties and even a quiet evening at home.

An Insider Guide to Nice International Airport

by Mary Bush

Nice airport is the busiest in France outside Paris. 6km to the west of Nice, it is accessed from the A8 motorway, well signposted, the junction depending on your direction of travel.

There are two terminals, T1 being somewhat larger than T2, and a good selection of cafs, bars, restaurants and shops. Nice is the airport of arrival for travellers to the Cote d Azur resorts, Monaco and some of the southernmost ski resorts such as Isola 2000.

Car Hire

Seven top international car hire companies are represented at Nice plus one specialising in vehicles adapted to take wheelchairs. Details at libertans.com Others are:- ADA; Avis; Budget; Europcar; Hertz; National/Citer and Sixt.

Arrivals

Landing at Nice airport can be quite exciting. The runways are built on reclaimed land and jut out into the Mediterranean Sea. From certain directions, it can seem as though you are about to land in the water when suddenly the end of the runway appears just in time. Most arrivals from the UK or Ireland will arrive at Terminal 1. Easyjet uses Terminal 2.

Departures

Your flight information should tell you which terminal to use but in general, unless you are flying Easyjet who use terminal 2, it will be terminal 1 for flights to the UK or Ireland. Both terminals are well served with Shops, Bars and Restaurants.

Taxis

If you plan to stay along the coast of the Cote d Azur, the area is well served by public transport which can be a lot cheaper, but less convenient, than hiring a car. Taxis are one option and Buses another. If, however, you want to explore the mountains and villages away from the coast then Car Hire could be your best bet.

Buses

There is a free airport navette which links the two terminals and all the car parks. For a ride into Nice take the bus Ligne 23 which links the airport with the main railway station. Tickets are only 1 euro, purchased on the bus. There is also a bus to Cannes every 30 or 40 minutes.

Parking

There is a set-down point outside Terminal 1. Security staff will move you on if you attempt to park for more than a couple of minutes. It is helpful to know which terminal you are using as some car parks are nearer to one than the other. If you find yourself too far away from where you want to be, take the free airport navette which makes a continuous trip between the terminals and all the car parks

Bars and Restaurants

Both terminals offer good facilities for eating and drinking. You will find you can get a quick snack, an express meal and two or three course lunches and dinners according to your time available. Remember, if you buy bottled water or other drinks in the public areas, you will not be allowed to take them through security into the departure lounges.

Shops

Shopping at Nice Airport does not compare with the UK or, indeed, some of the Spanish airports, but nevertheless, there are shoppertunities and the chance to browse round shops selling local products, wine, spirits, perfumes etc. Again, it depends on which terminal you are using.

Weather

The popularity of the Cote d Azur stems from its beautiful weather. Wealthy foreigners flocked here in the 19th and 20th centuries to avoid the northern winters and soon summer visitors were just as numerous. The narrow strip of land at the coast is protected from the north by the Alps and enjoys hot summers and mild winters.

Tips to buy discount air tickets

by katie George

When you buy airline tickets online, these are the cheapest because the airlines sell 7 to 100 seats in each flight to the contracted online vendors. Most of the discount airline tickets are non refundable and non transferable so once you book the ticket you go.

You need to keep the following tips in mind before your vacation trip and flights:

1. The best online airfare deals could be found on Wednesdays from midnight to around five in the morning.

2. You need to consider the time of year because summer is a high season and another peak travel period is during Christmas and New Year so if you want to have discounted airfare during this time, it would be hard for you. On the contrary, if you travel during off season you would be able to get airlines tickets at discounted rates because less people are traveling at that time.

3. If you have some flexibility with your dates, choose a later date such as instead of January 2 go for January 4 and avoid holidays would be best for you. The earlier you book the ticket, the more you can save.

4. In case you travel on a major holiday, it would save you a lot for example if you pay for a ticket on the Christmas Day you will get cheaper rates because majority of the people would be at his destination at that time. Online booking with the website of the airlines can save your time and money with ensured advance booking.

5. If you want a one way ticket instead of return ticket then make sure that you check the return rate but in most cases traveling both ways will be cheaper for you.

6. Weekends are also expensive than other weekdays because many people plan short trips during that time.

7. If you are looking for online discounts always check different websites that offer various range of prices and have different policies and approaches. You can also take the help of a travel agent who can make a good deal for you.

8. Try to fly with the same airlines each time because then you can build up flyer points and miles that you can redeem for free airline tickets.

Piano Exercises for Students

by Georgia Reader

There’s no way around it, piano practice is very necessary to learn your pieces if you want to sound good or perform for an audience. Set up a weekly plan for yourself either on your own or with the help of your teacher. It helps to have an organized set of steps to help you accomplish a goal each week, as you will eventually learn the piece if you follow through.

Most pianists need to work on developing the arm muscles as well as the hand and finger dexterity to get the power needed for chords and endurance. Finger exercises such as studies by Hanon or Czerny are effective for developing finger power. When finger exercises are practiced along with arm exercises such as lifting light weights, you will find that you are armed with the power to become a better pianist.

Scales and arpeggios are the backbone of piano technique and with regular practice fingers will become more agile and dexterous. Speed will gradually be gained after much practice, but it is not crucial until accuracy is achieved. Pianists can practice these exercises at any speed in the beginning, as accuracy will get better with repetition.

Remember you should start your exercises before you play your actual assignments for your daily practice sessions. You don’t want to spend great quantities of time exercising your fingers and muscles in your hands and arms. This can be counterproductive as too much muscle mass in the fingers will prevent dexterity instead of enhancing it.

The major finger muscles are actually located in the forearm, and bending your wrists or fingers at strange angles can even cause permanent damage. You want a comfortable technique that allows for full music expression so that the wrist should be loose, not locked. If you are in physical pain after a practice session, than you are pushing yourself too hard, don’t forget that about 75% of piano technique is all about relaxation.

The piano student often finds piano exercises to be tedious as they are very repetitive. Therefore, they should not take up the majority of a practice session because you don’t need to overdo it. Practice time need not be a drudgery and the student can practice pieces also.

There are many alternatives to repetitive sections of scales. For instance selecting certain etudes that concentrate on different technical aspects can be just as profitable and are much more interesting to play. Piano exercises will help you develop flexibility and are great for warming-up your fingers before actually practicing your pieces of music.

Keep in mind that playing exercises, scales, and etudes or studies will be better finger dexterity and technique. Do not overdo the exercises, but spend about ten minutes maximum daily. Make the best of your time playing the exercises, even try to play them musically with dynamics and with feeling if you can because you are improving your ability as a pianist.

The MCSA Course - Which One Is Best?

by Scott Edwards

The Microsoft MCSA course (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) is an ideal qualification for anyone wanting to become a network support technician. Whether you already have experience but need to formalise your skills with certification, or you’re about to join the IT industry, you will be able to find a course to suit your needs.

Look for a provider that’s happy to take the time to understand you, and can help you work out the right direction for you, even before they start thinking about which course. They will also be able to advise you where to start based on your current skill and or lack of understanding.

They should be able to explore your likes and dislikes in the working environment, and your personality to find the best job role for you. Then you need them to explain a day in the life of that role to check you’re happy with your choice.

Once you are happy, the next step is to choose a course that starts at your current ability level. Going in too deep too quick will slow you down. Always ensure that the course you decide on is the industry preferred course in that area.

The latest training courses are supplied on a set of discs which comprise of world class video tutorials, detailed on-screen demonstrations and interactive environments where you can gain hands-on practical experience. You will find this the easiest and most natural way to study - you can rewind as often as you like, and it completely eliminates the need for reading manuals.

When studying for an MCSA course you’ll need full support. Unfortunately many colleges only offer ‘office hours’ support - backed up with an out-of-hours message system. They claim this is 24/7 support but you’re unable to communicate with a tutor at the most common times students study i.e. evenings and weekends. So if you are studying alongside a job, be warned.

You need REAL 24/7 support - when you need assistance, there should be a team of tutors available to help you there and then, avoiding frustrating interruptions to your training.

There’s no need to attend classroom based lessons as the quality of this training environment is far better, and you can have personal attention from the comfort of your own home. It also eliminates the need to travel away from your home and family whilst training.

Ensure your chosen course includes some kind of exam practice software, preferably Microsoft authorised. These enable you to practice the pace of the exam, the level of difficulty and the way the questions are asked. You’ll be able to measure yourself and know when you’re ready to sit the real thing. Without such a tool - it’s unlikely you’ll pass first time.

Corporate Discount Travel - A New Way to Fly

by Ada Denis

I fly a lot and am considered a heavyweight among people who claim to know corporate travel. I have flown so much that I have received Christmas gifts from the major airlines. One time when I was taking a couple of months off and trying to stay home more I actually received calls from the airlines asking where I was and if everything was alright. That is too much. That is too much because of the wear and tear it places on your body and family life but also because of the dent it places in your wallet. I have found a way to fix all of that, at least the expense part anyway.

I received a phone call from a man asking if he could have the honor of booking my next set of travel arrangements for me. During a short interview he asked me where I typically went, how often I traveled, where I liked to sit on airplanes, which airlines I preferred, how much I was typically spending per flight to different locations, what type of accommodations the hotels I stayed in needed to have for me to be happy, what size and type of rental cars I preferred, all about my frequent traveler programs and away he went. I did not think another thing about it.

Within a few days I had a need to book a trip. I sent a quick e-mail to him letting him know the specifics about the trip and gave him a few hours to go to work. In the meantime I also went to work to check out what I would be able to book on my own. After spending about 45 minutes of my time I had a held itinerary for a flight, rental car and hotel room. The reservations were made all with my regular frequent flier and member numbers and all discounts were applied. The total trip was going to cost $1,620.00 over 3 days for air fare, rental car and a hotel stay.

I received an e-mail a couple of hours later telling me that I could save $200 off of my flight if I would be willing to make one-stop (I wasn’t), $30 a day off my rental car if I would use a different company (I would gladly for a $90 savings) and that a better grade of hotel would cost me $69 per night and not $199 per night (a savings of $130 per night and $420 for the trip). I fell in love with this guy who had called me out of the blue a week ago. He had just saved me $510.

Our company has a great departmental profit sharing plan that rewards our team of sales people for the margin that we bring in. Travel has been a sore spot for the corporation and the department as the expenses have gone up for travel and we have struggled with ways to cut back. We sell a service that is difficult to sell over the phone, typically requiring a couple of multiple day visits on-site to get a new project started. My next call was to our corporate team to let them know about how we can all save money on our corporate travel. Many thanks to the man who made the cold call.

Cost of Flights Soaring

by Mary Bush

Another price increase to add to the credit crunch list is the cost of flights. Low budget airlines are being hit hard as the increased price of oil is being reluctantly passed down to the consumers by the airlines. Prices for flights are still at record lows but this will not be the case within 12 months.

A number of main airlines have bumped up their prices in recent months. One of the main airlines have said that costs have risen by a massive 85 per cent over the past year, so the transatlantic fuel surcharge of 70 for a round-trip fare is an absolute necessity.

Some airlines are fighting a losing battle as they are attempting to lower prices everywhere else possible in a bid to even out the increasing fuel prices.

This should prompt people to book in advance as this is the only guaranteed method to make a saving when it comes to booking your flights.

Another tip to avoid maximum prices is to take your refreshments on board (as long as they do not break any airline rules or regulations) with you. Most airlines will charge around 10 - 15 for an in flight meal, the price of onboard refreshments are also under sized and over valued.

Using online price comparison sites is also highly recommended as they provide the details of most airline deal and can produce an instant selection of results from the criteria you have entered. You will no doubt find the best possible deal on a price comparison site.
